The Power of Joy, Connection, and Knowing When to Be Serious
Some say I should have been a comedian. Maybe they’re right. But instead, I chose medicine, leadership, and advocacy—where I use humour as a powerful tool for healing, connection, and transformation. Laughter is medicine, and I bring it into everything I do, from keynotes to coaching, because people learn best when they feel joy. But let’s be clear—there’s a time and place for everything." — Dr. Tomi Mitchell

The Balance Between Humor, Smiling, and Seriousness
There are times for laughter and times when seriousness is necessary. I know when to hold space for difficult conversations, deliver hard truths, or show a serious expression.

But joy and humor are powerful—they open minds, soften barriers, and make tough lessons easier to hear. Smiling, too, is universal; it builds trust and invites openness. That’s why I smile to connect authentically but shift to seriousness when reflection or deep thought is needed.
When I Use Humor:
-
To ease tension
-
To encourage new perspectives
-
To keep engagement high
-
To connect genuinely

When Humor Doesn’t Fit:
-
Discussing sensitive or traumatic topics
-
Holding space for pain or vulnerability
-
Addressing critical systemic issues
-
Moments needing thoughtful silence
Humor is a strategic tool, never a replacement for depth or difficult conversations.
Speaking & Coaching: Energy, Joy, and Engagement
When I speak or coach, expect more than just information—I bring energy and connection.
I believe in:
-
Dynamic presentations that bring ideas to life
-
Authentic human connection through humor, smiles, or powerful silence
-
Keeping people engaged—because no one wants a boring lecture
I’ve been in those dull rooms, and that’s not what I do. I aim to reach people with depth, insight, and yes, humor when appropriate.
Laughter & Smiling in My Work
In Medicine & Coaching:
A patient or client who feels valued opens up more. Sometimes a joke or smile creates that bond; other times, it’s simply holding space.
In Leadership & Speaking:
Serious topics like burnout and social justice need respect. A touch of levity can help, but knowing when to be silent is key.
In Everyday Life:

Life is hard enough. A smile, shared laughter, or a thoughtful pause can truly change how we experience it.

Work With Me: Because Leadership Needs Energy
If you want a keynote speaker, panelist, or trainer who blends humor, engagement, and expertise, let’s connect.
"Laughter is medicine—it lightens the load, cuts through tension, and brings people together in ways that no prescription ever could. But there’s a time for everything. And true connection—whether through humour, a thoughtful smile, or a serious moment—comes from knowing when to use each." — Dr. Tomi Mitchell

Because at the end of the day, leadership, medicine, and personal growth aren’t just about facts and figures—they’re about human connection. And I believe in making those connections genuine, dynamic, and deeply impactful.
Let’s create something powerful together.
